setra: Sherlock Holmes in golden light, plotting something. (sherlock)

I need to start ranting about this right now, and it's not even over yet.
Nothing has gone as I expected. I mean, of course it wasn't going to be Dealt Hand or the other right-after fics, but it was ... entertaining at least.
All the little references to other cases, and the flash forward through time as Watson so often does.
Stream-of-conciousness ranting and then some final thoughts after the cut. God /damn/ this was a good one.

First off, the look on Lestrade's face when Molly took off her coat at the Christmas party. I ship it.

Mycroft is around and a massive pillock, but he does care so.
John's girlfriends, poor dear. And Sherlock and the drugs, or the likely drugs. And god, it just rends my heart.
And John loves him so desperately.
And... though I love Irene "The Woman" Adler with all my dark devious spy master heart, I don't think I ship it. Firstly because I really believe that Sherlock is mostly asexual (though possibly leaning toward straight rather than gay if the implication is to be believed). The most interesting bit is the whole "clever is the new sexy" -

NOOOOOOOO, not working for fucking Jim Moriarty. God DAMNIT Sherlock. You fucking idiot.

And... her, invading his personal space. And pushing, and where would it go if it was allowed.

Mycroft... and god, the look in Sherlock's eyes as she walks past him for his hideous older brother. How amazing he is as an actor to achieve that.

And god-damn, but how fast his walls came back up. How his mind kicked back in when Moriarty was mentioned. How clever he was even as she invaded his space, god.

I love the use of "The Woman" in the only way that would make sense in the modern era. And fuck yes for him saving her, but no, because that's one more fucking mole out there working for Moriarty.

Ok, after effects. I still ship John and Sherlock. Pretty hardcore. Though clearly.... it's non-sexual at the very least. Probably Sherlock doesn't even know how much he relies on John. Though the scene in the parlor with the gun to his head certainly showed that that wasn't true.
I loved them both snapping at Mycroft for being cruel to Mrs. Hudson, and her then producing the phone even after being held at gunpoint.
I loved Sherlock taking the moment to apologize to Molly, even though she really deserves better than him. The scenes with Irene were really intensely sexy and smart. And I loved his sulking and wearing a bloody bedsheet in Buckingham Palace. And of course the instant Mycroft showed up I /knew/ he'd refuse, because he's just that stubborn.

And the CASES, The Geek Interpreter, and The Speckled Blonde... I'm delighted with all of it so far. And Sherlock sneaking in to Irene's house in just the same way as the original, but everything working so differently. I love the idea of her being a ProDom, it was just so lovely. Not sure what they plan to do with her in future, but... could be interesting. More so than killing her with poisoned tea, I hope. And I loved him keeping the phone, much like the photo in the original.

And rewatching the beginning after all that, I wonder if to Jim, this is all a part of burning the heart out of Sherlock Holmes. Open him up to feelings, and then remind him that you're in charge. So curious to see what else he has planned, the bastard. What else will he do??

Ok, sleep now, more ranting later.
