When I was holding my first season box set of Babylon 5 and wavering about buying it, I actually thought "what if it isn't actually as good as I remember?" Nah, I told myself. I knew plenty of adults with good taste who liked it too. Hn. They were right.
Yes, well... now I have thoughts of episodes four and five.

"We have to stay here [in space]. And there's a simple reason why.
Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, the environment... and you'll get ten different answers. But there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or thousand years or a million years, eventually our sun will grow cold and go out.
When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao Tzu and Einstein....
...and all of this, all of this... was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars."
-Cmdr. Jeffrey Sinclair (E104 "Infection")

I used that quote in an academic paper once.
No really. I did. Granted, I was in the eighth grade. But I made a damn good argument, I think. About the importance of the space program. (I was actually arguing for the MIR space station in that paper, I think.)

Episode 4 is one of those ones where you don't think anything essential is happening. The plot is more or less episodic. There are several characters introduced only for that episode who don't come back. But... there are tiny seeds. The organic technology being linked to the Vorlons for example. Development for Stephen too, right down to the 'working for 15 hours stright' and pushing himself too hard thing. And there's that moment of Ivanova and Franklin bonding as earthgov grabs the artifacts out of Franklin's hands at the end. Because aliens are only bad when they aren't giving you weapons.

Then episode 5 introduces Na'Toth for some witty dialogue and exciting Narn hijinks. Yet the background is all about religion. The Centauri and their gods and drinking. And the Minbari... and the rebirth ceremony. I love how obsessed Delenn is with Sinclair. Because he's /special/ and she knows it. Yet without knowing the true path that things will take. The end still makes me wibbly. Because... well... because. Because Jeff is too damn awesome. And Katherine was there too. I always forget about her, but she's so lovely.
I love that in any given episode there's the simple plot that you can follow. You could watch this and never know what every little thing in the background means... and it would still be fun, entertaining, moving... but to watch it with the whole story backing it up.... it's amazing. ^__^

I want an icon. That says 'Ivanova is God'... teh intarwebs fail me and I cannot find one. I am displeased. I do however have a wallpaper with Ivanova and Talia. &hearts

We also watched Ocean's Thirteen tonight. That movie is made of so much awesome. Just a lot of fun all around. ^_^

Going to sleep now, because if I watch the next episode now I'll have to rant about Jason and the PsiCorps and Bester. Better to sleep before all that. Oaysumi~
