Here we go again...
Ok... so I'm not completely doomed. Thank goodness I've watched so much anime. I sorta can understand a lot of things even when I don't really /know/ them... but being in that mode in class is bad because I end up using things that we don't know like だけ and の ように Which isn't good, as it confuses people even worse. And I end up not doing things the way that she wants. We leaned colors. I knew murasaki... which made me happy because that was the one I could never remember when my host mother used to drill me. So... where was I before class... oh right.
I hereby designate this to be Weiss week on Maya's Live Journal so here's you special feature for Day 1:
Having been watching a lot of dubbed anime on CN recently, my tolerance is back up near where it used to be, so I watched Weiss dubbed last night (becuse I knew I wouldn't get any studying done otherwise). So here's what I thought:
[Warning that my ratings are a little biased by my like or dislike of the character as well... but not much.]
Omi: Cute. Acctually very analogous to Yuuki Hiro in my mind, though a little more grown up. Rating: 4/5
Ken: A little odd. Not quite the feeling that I get from Seki Tomokazu, but I see what they were going for and it's not bad. He obviously really likes the part though and that helps. Rating: 3/5
Youji: Well... he's not Miki Shinichirou. But he's not bad either. I think the slight wierdness I got from him in 16 was more because of line timing than anything else... and that's not his fault. Another good choice for the dub. Rating: 4/5
Aya: I saved him for last for a reason... *twitch* The actor is really inconsistent in how he plays the character and that bothers me. He can't decide if he wants to be Koyasu (he seems like he's trying sometimes) or if he wants to bring some new aspect to the character that he really doesn't know how to. Also, his voice is not a very good match for Koyasu (emotionaly or tonaly) so when he does try to match the original he sounds like he's forcing his voice too low. Meh. Still, not really a bad actor... probably... just the worst in a well-dubbed show. Rating: 2/5
Nagi: Ok, jumping right into Schwartz. Nagi sounds older than he should. On the other hand, he does in Japanese too. The English voice is acctually an amazing match for the Japanese in terms of tone, and from what I've heard the actor is very steady in his portrayal of the young hacker. Rating: 4/5
Crawford: Lets get this over with. I'm not as happy with his character as I thought I'd be. Not in Japanese and deffinitely not in English. And his English voice doesn't help redeem him the way Okiayu Ryoutarou did... it makes it worse. Like Aya, he seems a little confused about what he's doing. He doesn't seem to really care about the role or feel like putting much effort of emotion into making his lines flow. Rating:2/5
Schuldich: No, I'm not saving Shu for last... though he is really good. I'm wondering if this is the same dub they used for Mikage or if there are two good VAs out there that gan do his voice. Just as smooth, deep and sexy as he is in Japanese, the Shuldich dub made me very, very happy. Second only to one other, which you'll see... Rating: 5/5
Farfarelo: Yes, crazy little farfie gets the #1 spot. Because no one has ever done slightly-cracked-homicidal-maniac quite this well... maybe not even the japanese. His voice is a little lower than it in in Japanese, but that just makes it creepier. The actor obviously loves scaring the hell out of people or something. Rating: 5/5
Ok done. Now back to your regularly schedualed ranting...
